Claims Process Overview

In our experience, most homeowner’s insurance companies cover the cost of biohazard remediation involving suicide, homicide, and unattended deaths that occur at the insured property. If you have insurance and would like to file a claim for any of our services, BioteamNY-PA will help you manage and navigate the entire insurance claims process:

  • We will assist you with calling the homeowner’s insurance company to start the claim.
  • We work directly with the insurance company on all steps of the claim to ensure the work is covered by the insurance policy.
  • We advocate for you, the client, and do not affiliate with any insurance companies. This allows us to act in the best interest of our clients without any conflicts of interest.
  • We document the entire cleanup process from beginning to end. This includes bacteria and germ testing, pictures of all phases of the work, documentation of all items disposed of due to impact, etc.
  • Our claims specialists work with you to ensure all needs are met including assisting with personal property damage and rebuild of biohazard remediation.

Some insurance companies require prior approval before we start the decontamination process. If this is the case, a Senior Technician from BioteamNY-PA will go to your property to assess and document the impact. We will swiftly implement measures to slow down the decomposition process and assist with killing bacteria and odor. We can also assist in retrieving vital documents or other necessary items from inside of the insured property.

Biohazard Cleanup & Service Timeline

Every biohazard cleanup is different and timeline can vary depending on the scope of work required. Due to the nature of some of our services, you may be unable to stay in your home for the duration of the biohazard work. If this is the case, BioteamNY-PA will provide you with a hotel or other accommodations at no additional cost to you. Most cleanups can be completed within a few days. No matter how long it takes, we will be there with you every step of the way.

Bacteria & Germ Testing

Generally, when something looks clean most people will assume that it is clean. However, this is not always the case. In addition to visual inspections, our technicians perform ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) tests before, during and after cleanup service. The ATP test allows us to measure the presence of actively growing bacteria microorganisms in an area to determine if there are viable bacteria or organic debris present in the property.

Personal Property List

Most porous and semi-porous items that have come into contact with bodily fluids will have to be treated and disposed of at a state approved biohazardous waste treatment facility. Our technicians make a personal property list, which is supported by time-stamped photographs, to show proof of loss. This is especially important if you need to prove the loss of personal property to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Document Retrieval

Paper is extremely porous, and documents that have been impacted by blood, bodily fluid, or other potentially infectious materials must be treated and transported to a medical waste facility for destruction. If important documents have been damaged, the senior technician will discuss the steps that must be taken to salvage as much information as possible from the document.

Post-Remediation Evaluation

We are an IICRC Certified Firm which means that we hold ourselves to the highest standards of clean. Upon your request, we will provide a post-remediation certificate to you, property management, or insurance company. We want to provide you with the assurance and peace of mind that the property is safe to return to after our final evaluation.
